Beginning February 10th, 2009 the Consumer Product Saftey Improvement Act (CPSIA) will require that each and every item intended for children under the age of 12 be tested for lead and phthalates. Congress is enforcing the belief that ALL children’s items are toxic until proven otherwise. This includes clothing, bedding, toys, jewelry, car seats, etc.
The cost of this testing is astronomical and will decimate the handmade/small business community unless the act is reformed. We believe in protecting our children. With a few small changes this law can be effective AND practical!
♦This adorable set of 6 crayons (composed of 4 regular crayons each) is broken down in the following way:
24 components x $70 = $1680 for Lead testing
24 components x $350 = $8400 for Phthalates testing

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! I know sometimes this time of year, especially here in the Northeast, can be somewhat depressing. The holidays are over and there is nothing but snow to look at for the next several months. I am happy to say though that I am looking forward to a fresh start with the New Year. I hope 2009 will bring lots of creativity and health and happiness to all!
Shopping Cart Covers

After creating just over 100 covers in nine months I would like to announce that I am retiring indefinitely. A great deal of time and energy is put into each shopping cart cover. Unfortunately I know that several of my customers have been dissappointed by the delay in delivery time and that was never my intention. I feel that now is a great time for me to develop my ideas for smaller projects which allow me to expand my creativity.
If I decide to continue making cart covers in the future it will be on a custom or “ready to ship” basis only. I appreciate those of you that have purchased covers in the past and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my delays may have caused.
